Sometimes, knowing just the right words can make all the difference.

At The Lingua Network, we've always believed that language learning is about so much more than vocabulary and grammar. It's about connection, community, and making the people around us feel seen, heard, and welcome. Our mission is to come alongside those who come alongside others through building language diversity in our communities.

That's why we're thrilled to introduce Language Where It Matters, a brand-new series of practical, one-hour language workshops designed around real-world situations where communication can make a meaningful difference.

As a proud member of the Feeding America Directory, we knew we had to kick things off with a cause that's especially close to our hearts: Spanish for Food Bank Staff and Volunteers!

Spanish for Food Bank Staff and Volunteers: Our First Workshop in the "Language Where it Matters" series

Whether you're volunteering at a food bank, working alongside Spanish-speaking families, or simply looking to expand your everyday Spanish vocabulary, these workshops are for you!

Our Spanish for Food Bank Staff and Volunteers workshops focus on the essential skills needed to communicate more confidently in situations involving food access and community support.

We'll explore language used to:

  • Welcome and greet Spanish-speaking community members

  • Ask questions and understand basic needs

  • Talk about food, quantities, and preferences

  • Offer assistance and give simple directions

  • Navigate everyday conversations with greater confidence

And here's something important: You do NOT need to work or volunteer at a food bank to participate!

While these workshops were inspired by the incredible people working to address food insecurity, much of the Spanish we'll practice is useful in everyday life. Anyone who wants to build practical communication skills is welcome.

One Hour. One Workshop. Real-World Spanish.

We know everyone has different schedules, budgets, and learning goals. That's why we've designed Language Where It Matters to be as flexible and accessible as possible.

Each workshop is a standalone, one-hour virtual class held live via Zoom

Our director, Bex Paz, brings over 20 years of Spanish teaching experience to this series. There's no ongoing commitment, no prerequisites, and no need to sign up for multiple sessions (unless you'd like a review!)

Workshop pricing:

  • $35 per workshop when purchased individually

  • One class credit if you're enrolled in any of our month-to-month plans

Language Learning That Makes a Difference

Language doesn't have to be perfect to be meaningful.

Sometimes it's a warm greeting. Sometimes it's being able to ask someone what they need. Sometimes it's simply having the confidence to try.

We created Language Where It Matters to help bridge those everyday communication gaps—one conversation at a time.

Food Access Is Just the Beginning...

Language Where It Matters is an expanding series of practical language workshops created for the people who show up for others. Following our Spanish for Food Access workshops, we're developing additional sessions beginning in January 2027 specifically for:

  • Healthcare Professionals: Building connections with Spanish-speaking patients through practical, everyday healthcare communication.

  • Educators: Strengthening communication with Spanish-speaking students and families.

  • Social Workers & Therapists: Learning useful Spanish for welcoming clients, building rapport, and navigating everyday interactions.

  • First Responders: Practicing essential language for communicating calmly and clearly in urgent situations.

¡Tenemos muchas ganas de conocerte!

We can't wait to meet you!
